“Remus, please… just accept it, I’m getting married.”
The two people stared at each other, the man having his hand soft placed on her arm, and the woman being turned away from him. He could see the bruises on her neck, from where he hit her, and he knew he did it, because he had seen him once. He had taken all his strength to control the wolf in him, and not kill the woman he loves’ fiancé. He truly loved her, and if she was happy with him, then he had to leave her alone.
She turned to look at him, amber eyes meeting her brown, she was quickly reminded of all the times he was there to hold her, comfort her in her times of need, when a boyfriend had cheated on her, or she had just ended it, or whether it was when she came back from the summer and cried out of happiness to get away from her father. Now she was in a similar relationship, unless it wasn’t her father but her fiancé who hit her. She couldn’t leave him and let Lily be right… again. And it was only when she pushed Thomas did he get like that, in a way she told herself she did deserve it, but she truly didn’t.
Here she was now, standing in the hallway of her apartment, with Remus Lupin, the person she had loved for 11 straight years now. His hand was touching her arms, and her cheeks were getting flushed. He was trying to tell her Thomas was only going to hurt her. Why did he care? Why did he care, after all these years why did he have any right to tell her who she could and couldn’t date? He hadn’t made a move, so why did he care?
“It’s my life…” Star began, looking at him with newly found tears in her eyes, “I can do what I want with it. Why do you have /any/ right to tell me who I can and cannot date?”
The words were harsh, but she didn’t know, and if she did know she wasn’t accepting it now. Remus took in her sweet looks, her long red hair was tied back into a ponytail, and her brown eyes were full with tears he could see them, her soft, beautiful red lips pursed into a frown, he absolutely hated that look.
“Because…” he began, his grip getting tighter as he was not going to allow her to move, to get away from him once again. “I care, Star.” He whispered, “I care about you, and I don’t want you to get married to someone that’ll hurt you.” I want you to get married to me, he added silently in his head rubbing his thumb up and down her arm.
Star felt the movement on her arm and chills went down her back, she avoided eye contact, she was however staring furiously at the floor. “If you cared so much,” she scowled, lifting her eyes up to look at him, “then why didn’t you do anything while you had the chance?”
“The chance past, Remus, I’m sorry but you’re going to have to accept it. I’m getting married.” Star said, a sad tone to her voice, before turning softly, feeling Remus’s hand slide down her arm as she moved, she held Remus’s hand softly, as she gave Remus a soft, but sad smile, and then turning away.
Star Mirden, Remus softly thought staring at her hand while it had stayed in his for what seemed like a nanosecond, the one that got away.
